My Second Half Marathon
In early September I constructed a list of 5k races I wanted to do before the year ended. While researching these races I came across a half marathon that I couldn’t resist. At some point, paying $30-40 for a race that ends in 25 minutes or less on a weekly basis was starting to get slightly expensive. Sure, I placed a few times in the last couple of months but something about a longer distance race felt like a much bigger accomplishment. I decided that instead of doing the 5ks, I’d rather end the year with another half marathon. We even booked a night at the resort that is hosting the race!
Race description: Run the magnificent countryside of Jo Daviess County in northwest Illinois… past rolling pastures with spectacular views of the Mississippi River.
The Galena Lead Rush Half Marathon, held this year on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, will test your endurance. Lace up your running shoes for this late autumn half-marathon starting at Chestnut Mountain Resort. Run the countryside and end along the mighty Mississippi River. After the race, enjoy the chairlift ride to the post-race party with live entertainment and the awards ceremony.
Doesn’t that sound awesome?
